Having successfully supported a number of our clients with their crowdfunding campaigns, we wanted to share our top tips on how a business can effectively promote their crowdfunding projects to ensure maximum success too.
Crowdfunding is becoming an increasingly investment method to raise vital funds to get businesses off the ground. However, it relies on people knowing about you, the campaign and encouraging them to support you to achieve your targets.
In order to spread the word about your crowdfunding campaign, it is important to first consider your target audience and the relevant platforms on which you need to be seen. The more research you can do on your target customer, key influencers, and supporters, the better, to understand where these people are hanging out and what they’re reading.
A question that we’ve heard many businesses ask is how they’ll spread the word about their crowdfunding campaign in order to gain supporters.
Our friends and clients over at Leeds-based designer and manufacturer, Vanacci opted to create an engaging video to support their crowdfunding efforts and help to promote the launch of their innovative fragrance-infused men’s accessories.
Video is an engaging way to relay key messages; it has also been proven that including videos and images in social media posts are much more likely to capture the attention of your target audience.
MacComms has helped to support the firm’s Kickstarter campaign through blogger engagement and securing positive reviews about Vanacci’s innovative products. Vanacci is Yorkshire’s highest-grossing Kickstarter design firm and its most recent campaign exceeded its target by more than 2000% which we naturally got the news out about!
Through raising the firm’s profile both locally and nationally, MacComms has worked with the company to achieve valuable press coverage, driving traffic to their Kickstarter page and YouTube channel. This has also led to a number of direct sales for Vanacci’s products, which demonstrates how impactful a strategic PR plan can be alongside a business’s crowdfunding campaign.
MacComms has also assisted start-up homemade Yorkshire gin and whiskey distillery, Cooper King Distillery with their crowdfunding campaign and the promotion of its founding members’ club.
With a true Yorkshire heritage dating back to 1843, the family-run business has a great regional story to tell, with interesting back stories from the founders too, which in turn, has provided a fantastic platform from which to promote the company and its mission to bring outstanding spirits to Yorkshire.
Cooper King Distillery hasn’t completed the build of the distillery yet and no spirit will be produced until spring 2018, however, that hasn’t stopped us and them gaining great success for them since summer 2017.
Having an interesting story to tell helps significantly with getting you crowdfunding project up and running and securing press coverage then becomes much easier. The media is absorbed by stories with a human-interest element, so the more remarkable your back-story the more likely you are to secure coverage.
MacComms has helped the gin and whisky distilling entrepreneurs to maximise the exposure of their regional roots via a focused PR campaign which we launched ahead of Yorkshire Day 2017.
We have identified and engaged with key journalists and bloggers, sending them exclusive samples of the Founders’ Club membership tool kit’s so that they could experience for themselves the magic that Cooper King hopes to deliver with their new venture, securing reviews and significant press coverage.
Using the region’s dedicated day on the 1st August as a platform for distributing a launch press release of the Founders’ Club has helped to increase reach and interest around Cooper King and its missions so be sure to do your research on what key dates and national awareness days there are to give your brand a PR-able platform too.
