At MacComms we are proud to have built and sustained a number of positive partnerships within our Yorkshire community.
Our founder, Ellie MacDonald, was raised in Leeds before moving to Huddersfield to study psychology at The University of Huddersfield. Staying true to her roots, her now 16-month strong business, MacComms, is now dual-based in the heart of Leeds city centre and Huddersfield town.
At MacComms we believe it is essential to engage in our Yorkshire community with three C’s:
Companies
Our strategy is to collaborate with fellow firms working within the same market rather than viewing them as competition. After all, we’re stronger together. As such we have formed a number of partnerships and celebrate each other’s successes.
Our base in Leeds is situated in the Entrepreneurial Spark hub in the centre of Leeds city centre. Our location in Leeds has sparked prosperous opportunities to collaborate with clients based on the growth accelerator programme, including Zest Mixology and Live for Today. Our founder Ellie has even won the ‘Chiclet Choice’ award commemorating her collaborative efforts within the Leeds E-Spark, voted for by fellow entrepreneurs.
Community
Most importantly, we take pride in giving back to our company’s Yorkshire heritage.
As an alumni of The University of Huddersfield, Ellie has created a range of internship opportunities for students wishing to pursue a career in PR post-graduation. Read more about our internship opportunities here.
Based in 3M Buckley Innovation Centre in Huddersfield, we believe it is crucial to volunteer our PR efforts to a range of community-based projects. Most recently, Ellie has become an adviser for the HD Business Works programme, a community interest company which provides free support and guidance to local businesses within Huddersfield by offering her PR expertise and support in 30-minute free support sessions.
Ellie also managed the PR for a 45000-strong campaign to save Huddersfield’s HRI, engaging celebrity and public support through social media and the local business community, namely Huddersfield Town to organise a match dedicated to the campaign, achieving vast media and press coverage just eight months into running MacComms singlehandedly!
Charity
It is also integral to MacComms’ mission to give back to the community in the form of charity work.
As a trustee of The Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust, Ellie has taken an active role promoting the charity to raise awareness through extensive PR and even organised our very own first year in business event, MacCelebration in support of the charity. We not only raised hundreds of pounds and vast awareness for Laura Crane, we also brought together local firms and the community with online competitions and an extensive social media campaign to engage stakeholders.
As well as being an active ambassador for The Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust, Ellie has supported various other Yorkshire-based charities such as:
- Taking an active role in the fundraising and social media management of the Town Foundations’s Big Screen Weekend event in summer 2015
- Promoting Simon on the Streets’ homeless sleep out and engaging a local band to support it
- Connecting clients to support more charities and promoting the fundraising and awareness raising initiatives through PR
