As the leaves start to change and we step out of our strappy dresses and sandals and into our woolly jumpers, we’re dusting off our parker jackets and may have started singing a Christmas song or two… It’s starting to get cosy at MacComms HQ and also a little quieter now that our fantastic intern Emily ‘Dale’ has returned to university. Despite this, we’ve had an incredibly busy month of amazing news with new clients joining us, so many client award nominations we’ve not got enough fingers to count, and tons of client coverage online and in print, national and local that our spreadsheets are busting at the seams.
It’s the Monday after our founder, Ellie MacDonald won the Forward Ladies start-up business woman of the year for Yorkshire and the North East so we’ve spent the morning gazing at her trophy, marvelling at how heavy and official it looks and making room for it on our office awards shelf. As you can imagine we’re beaming with pride and may have let out a few squeals when the news unfolded on Twitter that she had won! Have a read of Ellie’s latest founder’s thoughts piece on what success looks like, to get an idea of the journey she’s been on how hard she’s worked to make MacComms the success it is today.
The second award season of the year is upon us, showcasing a number of our impressive clients that have been shortlisted in lots of different industry categories. The Car Buying Group, headed up by tech innovator Tom Marley, was named in the Sunday Time Tech Track 100 earlier this month at number 20, the highest ranking in Yorkshire, as well as nominated in two Yorkshire Post Excellence in Business award categories. Sound Leisure, Cooper King Distillery, Arrow Self Drive, Zest Mixology and LightStart have all been shortlisted in the Great British Entrepreneur Awards, and our entries for BigChange were successful in the Yorkshire Post Excellence in Business awards too. Sound Leisure were shortlisted in the 2018 Licensing Awards last week for its incredible Sargent Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club themed jukebox (more on this in our newsletter) and our finance director, Martin Mellor has also been shortlisted in the Northern Finance Awards. We can’t wait for the final results and our so proud of the hard work that has gone into getting these Yorkshire entrepreneurs and their businesses recognised.
Following the success of the Victoria Gate pop-up shop we supported, we’re delighted that Sound Leisure has come on board as a long-term client. The only manufacturer of vinyl jukeboxes in the world, the Leeds-based family owned business specialise in handcrafted jukeboxes and export all over the world.
We’d also like to pay a special mention to the C4 #AllinLeeds campaign that Intermarketing agency have headed up to entice Channel 4 to set up camp in Leeds. The talent and determination of the creative agencies in our city is incredible and having Channel 4 reside alongside us all would help expedite the growth of tech and creativity in Leeds even further.
Finally, our senior account executive Emily ‘Doc’ waved her son off to his first day of school last week, a bittersweet moment! We all felt very proud, but it also highlighted how quickly he has grown up!
That’s all for now folks, we’ll see you next month for October’s happy news.
