This month’s happy news includes our campaign for wellness, a Michelin-Starred collaboration, a partnership to support the revolutionisation of recruitment, sleeping out for Simon on the Streets, Huddersfield A&E success, and LightStart’s two-year birthday.
Also, a huge thanks to Stefan Serban for this amazing photo of sunset over the Leeds canal!
Campaigning for the mind
As an issue that has particularly touched us recently, the MacComms team is keen to campaign and raise awareness about mental health. Whether it’s you, a loved one or someone you know, mental health affects everyone in some way. Indeed, it is a current topic and the stigma around it is becoming increasingly diminished; more and more people are openly talking about it and not seeing it as a ‘weakness’.
However, we believe that there is still a long way to go; we want to eradicate that stigma completely as often more severe and unknown conditions are misunderstood. We are passionate about highlighting the complexity and variety of mental health problems which, depending on the person, can affect people in different ways.
By making people more aware, we can hopefully notice the signs earlier on and help people immediately. But of course, it depends how this help is given, as sometimes simply saying ‘reach out’ ‘I’m here if you need me’ isn’t enough; we need to actively reach out to our loved ones and try our best to seek professional help. If you resonate with this or simply want to make a difference, we would love to hear from you.
Our founder recently went on a wellness retreat to Portugal that she thoroughly enjoyed has found has made a positive impact on both her and MacComms. Have a read of her post on the importance of taking time out here.
Sleep-out for Simon
With our client Simon on the Street’s annual ‘sleep-out’ coming up on September the 27th, we have set up a Just Giving page to donate to and support such an admirable charity which is passionately fighting homelessness day-in and day-out.
Taking place at the Royal Armouries in Leeds, on 27 September, Simon on the Streets has partnered up with national charity CEO Sleepout to expose participants to the harsh reality of rough sleeping. BBC Good Food award winner Manjit’s Kitchen will be providing the evening meal, as well as entertainment on the night including a performance of ‘Mother Courage and her Children’ by Red Ladder Theatre Company, and The Hepworth Brass band performing upon arrival.
If you would also like to get involved with the sleep-out to support Simon on the Streets, you can sign up here – we’d love to see you there.
Revolutionising recruitment
To help us find a new account manager, we have partnered with a new internal recruiter Rebecca Dalzell of My Internal Recruiter, who will hopefully help us find the perfect fit. In contrast to traditionally expensive, commission-based recruitment agencies, Rebecca is an independent recruiter who goes into companies, understands their values and works with them closely; she is changing the face of recruitment and we fully support it!
Success for Huddersfield A&E
Back in 2016, when our founder Ellie first launched MacComms, she was an admin member of the campaign to stop Huddersfield A&E services being closed. It might have taken more than two years, but we are delighted with the recent news that these plans have now been axed! Although Ellie had to reduce her efforts and focus on her business growing, she remained supportive of the cause and is very pleased that her hard work in 2016 paid-off. Huddersfield may no longer be Ellie’s hometown but as the birthplace of MacComms, it will always have a special place in MacComms’ heart.
Michelin-Starred collaboration
In addition to this happy client news, we are delighted by Cooper King Distillery’s collaboration with Michelin-Starred restaurant, the Black Swan. The distillery will produce a range of bespoke spirits for the restaurant, to add to its famous drinks list. We can’t wait to use this as an excuse to visit the famous Black Swan and sip on our favourite gin….
Birthday ‘Meat up’
After two years of fantastic growth and success, we joined our clients and event partners LightStart to celebrate its second birthday. The team threw a fabulous ‘Meat-up’ BBQ event which Ellie and Emily Doc thoroughly enjoyed! The design house has experienced a hugely successful two years, increasing profits, clients and their team and becoming a renowned Leeds tech business which hosts more than 50 innovative events each year.
That’s all for now, join us next month for more happy news! Until then, here’s something to keep you happy…
