A Huddersfield businesswoman is to be the first to speak at a new networking event to be launched in Mirfield.
Ellie MacDonald, who launched PR and marketing firm MacComms less than four months’ ago, was approached to be the first speaker to offer local women in business marketing and PR tips and advice at a unique networking event.
The already national support group, BizMums, which hosts events around the country, aims to bring mums in business together with networking opportunities. The event to launch in Kirklees and Calderdale will be held at The Three Nuns, Mirfield on Monday 14 September 10.00am – 1pm. Huddersfield and Halifax events will also launch in September.
The event has already received an overwhelming response on Facebook each event is set to repeat monthly.
The recently appointed West Yorkshire Coordinator organising the events is Rebecca Cookin, owner of Recoco Woman, a boutique ‘on the go’ set up help women shop in their own homes.
Rebecca explained what the aim was behind reaching out to fellow female business owners:
“I set up in October 2013 and realised in my first year of business that it’s a whole lot harder than I expected. I spent so much more money than I needed to and struggled to get help finding funding, mentoring, support and I therefore felt very alone, stressed and a bit hopeless. After speaking to other female business owners I found that I wasn’t alone. So I set up the women in business Facebook page to help support women who are in similar situations.”
Rebecca came across BizMums just five weeks after Rebecca gave birth to her daughter Eva Rose.
Rebecca continued:
“I thought I wouldn’t be able to go back to work for a good while after having my baby, but when you’re running your own business it’s not an option to completely switch off. I was therefore inspired to create BizMums offering me and fellow mums in business the opportunity to network whilst having our children with us to take away the pressure of choosing one over the other.”
Ellie MacDonald commented:
“I may not be a mum but I appreciate all business owners need support, particularly mums for whom there are very few options to combine childcare with networking. I’m flattered to have been asked to speak so early into the formation of my own business and I’m looking forward to extending my network further.”
